Today on the Hill: House Begins Consideration of Measure to Affirm U.S. Support for Paris Climate Agreement

May 1, 2019

Lawmakers in the House are set to begin consideration of a bill that would reject President Donald Trump’s stance on the Paris Climate Agreement. The Climate Action Now Act (H.R. 9) — which is expected to pass later this week along party lines — would bind the Trump administration to the carbon-cutting goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement after the president vowed to withdraw the U.S. from almost two years ago. The lower chamber’s work on the bill will start with consideration of 30 amendments to the underlying text.

In the upper chamber, Senators will hold a final confirmation vote on the nomination of J. Campbell Barker to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas. Following consideration of the Barker nomination, the Senate will then move onto the nomination of Andrew Brasher to be United States District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama.
